The Baker boys scratched out a hard fought win in overtime Saturday afternoon in the first round of the GWOC tournament held at Centerville High School. The opponent was a Springfield Blue team that Fairborn handled earlier in the season. The Wildcats, however, came out on fire and jumped to an early lead. The Skyhawks fought back by holding Springfield to only 4 second quarter points, but still entered the half down by 7 points. They picked up the intensity in the opening moments of the second half to take the lead. Springfield would not go down easily though, and jumped back in front to end the third quarter. An exciting fourth quarter saw the lead change hands several times with big shots by both teams. The 'Hawks fell behind late but made a last minute run to tie the score. Fairborn had their chances to put the game away at the free throw line, but misses allowed Springfield to stay in it. A potential game winning shot fell well short for the Wildcats, sending the game into overtime. Fairborn took control in the extra period, but again missed crucial free throws, allowing Springfield a late 3 point attempt that would've tied the game. The shot drifted wide and Fairborn escaped with the narrow victory. Zion Crowe led all scorers with 16 points. Owen Ransom added 14 and Caelan Bush 11 for Fairborn, who utilized the entire bench to earn the big team win.
