The Fairborn Boys tennis team traveled to Greenville on Thursday in another GWOC American League match. The hosts made quick work of the visiting Skyhawks by a final score of 5-0.
"You see the difference in our programs when you pull up to their courts. There are six courts filled with students taking lessons and participating in a group class. That's their feeder system. We have a great summer league at the park, and a camp that hosts about 20 kids in the summer. If we want to compete with these North schools, we are going to have to get more kids out playing before they get to the High School."
Brandon Schmidt showed some real improvement in his play today at #1 singles, but still fell 2-6, 2-6. Mei Linn Kutilla and Harry Huynh managed to win a game apiece in dropping their matches at #2 and #3 singles respectively.
In doubles action, Caleb Smith and Nghi Nguyen dropped an 0-6, 0-6 match, while Silas Smith and Janiel Buita were able to win one game in their loss.
The JV continued to show improvement. Hannah Byczkowski and Juliana Boyd fell 2-6, 2-6 but were extremely competitive, and even though Yudha Andayana and Quincie Kehoe lost 2-6, 0-6, they were the last ones off the court, showing the competitiveness of their match.
"Frankly, I think we came out flat tonight, and you can't do that against a team like Greenville. Its been a long week with a couple of long trips already and another one tomorrow (at Sidney) so we are going to change some things up tomorrow and see if that helps shake things up."
The Friday trip to Sidney ends a long week of mostly road matches for the Skyhawks. The team is looking forward to next week where their only road trip is to Stebbins.
