The Fairborn Boy's tennis team is making improvement, its just difficult to see with the caliber of competition they face each night. On Wednesday, Valley View made the trip from Germantown to face off against the Skyhawks, and the visitors rolled to a 5-0 victory over their hosts.
"We are getting better, I can see the improvement every day, but we just keep coming up against strong programs so its hard to see positive results yet."
None of the singles matches had close scores. Brandon Schmidt fell 1-6, 0-6 at the top spot, while Mei Lin Kutilla dropped 1-6, 1-6 scores at #2 singles. Harry Huynh finished off the singles, falling 1-6, 0-6 at the 3rd spot. "The games are competitive, the rallies are getting longer, we just aren't getting crucial points. At least we are making positive strides though. If these three will just hang in there, I'm confident the positive results will start to come for them."
"The same can be said for the doubles teams. Positive things are happening out there, but they just can't get the key points, so its hard to see the improvement on paper." Caleb Smith and Nghi Nguyen looked much better in falling 2-6, 1-6 at the #1 spot, while Silas Smith and Janiel Buita lost 0-6, 2-6 at #2.
"Valley View is a strong program so losing to them is no disgrace. Its another good chance to play strong competition and get better... We will see if they take what they learned today into their match against Stebbins tomorrow."
The loss drops the Skyhawks to 1-7 on the season. Thursday will find the team heading over to Stebbins for a GWOC South match, followed by the 3rd attempt to host Butler (on Friday).
