TIPPECANOE HIGH SCHOOL: 5
The Fairborn Boy's tennis team travelled to Tipp City to face Tippecanoe H.S. on Monday on yet another cold and gray day. While performances were improved over Friday, unfortunately the result was ths same as the hosts came away with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Skyhawks.
At #1 singles, Brandon Schmidt put in a solid performance against Tipp's Colin Achlerberg, but ended up falling by a 3-6, 3-6 score.
At #2 singles, Mei Linn Kuttila came up against another strong performer in Hugo Mark, who rolled 6-0, 6-0. Harry Huynh dropped a 1-6, 0-6 decision to Christopher Nichols at the #3 singles position.
In doubles, Tipp dominated as well. At #1, Caleb Smith and Nghi Nguyen fell 0-6, 1-6 to Evan Hill and Lei Berning. At #2 doubles, Silas Smith and Janiel Buita lost to David Shiminger and Jack Thompson 0-6, 2-6.
"This was another fine GWOC North school that we faced tonight. The scary thing about this team as solid as they are, they only had one senior playing on the varsity so they should be even better next year. I thought we looked better today. At times our players were a little intimidated but there were also times when they looked much more confident and aggressive out there. I think the performances today will carry in to our match tomorrow against Piqua in a positive way."
IN JV action Yudha Andayana and Hannah Byczkowski fell 1-8, and Brianna Boyd and Anya Tassy lost 1-6.
The Skyhawks host another GWOC North foe, Piqua on Tuesday, before hitting the road again for the rest of the week... taking trips to Middletown, Greenville and then Sidney on Friday.
