Another day, another match, another tough GWOC opponent. On Friday night it was Vandalia Butler visiting the Community Park Courts to face the Fairborn Boy's tennis team, and the Aviators left with a 5-0 victory over the Skyhawks.
"I know it sounds like a broken record, but this was another outstanding GWOC North team, and we played pretty well. Again, the scores don't indicate how well we played."
Butler's singles swept through the Skyhawks, dropping just one game along the way. Brandon Schmidt lost 0--6, 1-6 at the #1 position, Mei Lin Kuttila dropped her match 0-6, 0-6, and Caleb Smith got his second match at #3 singles, again he played pretty well, but he still dropped his match 0-6 and 0-6.
There were two new doubles teams for Fairborn tonight as once again they were missing senior Harry Huynh. Freshmen Nghi Nguyen and Silas Smith played #1 doubles and played well together but still lost 2-6, 0-6. At #2 doubles it was Janiel Buita teaming up with Yudha Andayana. This pair did a good job in defeat, their scores were 2-6, 2-6. "It was nice to watch the doubles teams out there today, I think both teams enjoyed playing together, and it showed in their play. I was happy to see Janiel Buita smiling and happy after the match, even though they had lost, he thought he played his best match of the year and was quite proud of getting a great overhead shot for a winner. We get so caught up sometimes in winning and losing and there he was happy about a small success. That was a great thing to see. He told me he was going to play alot this summer so he could get better and hit more overheads next year. I told him I'd love to see that."
The Skyhawks will wind up the home portion of their schedule next week as they have four matches, all at the Community Park courts. Cedarville will visit on Monday, followed by West Carrollton, Yellow Springs, and then Greenon will be the guests on Senior Night (Thursday).
