Carroll Defeates Boys tennis team 5-0

Game Date
May 2, 2018

After enjoying a three match winning streak over the past week, the fortunes of the Boys tennis team came crashing back to earth at the hands of the host Carroll Patriots on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 5-0.

"They (Carroll) were sneaky good. They have inexperienced players just like we do, but they have several really good athletes and they had more access to preseason indoor courts and workouts and that makes quite a difference. The past two years they have been similar to us, but this year they got an infusion of young athletic players and it has made a big difference in their program.

Brandon Schmidt got off to a great start at #1 singles before cooling off, his final scores were 3-6, 1-6.

At #2 singles Caleb Smith ran into a really aggressive and hard hitting player who was on tonight, and Caleb was unable to get a game, losing 0-6, 0-6.

Mei Lin Kuttila was having better luck at the #3 spot, she dropped the first set 3-6, but was playing better in the second set, trailing 2-3, but she had to default the match (the team had already lost) in order to make it to the Academic Honors banquet.

Carroll fielded two strong doubles team too, Harry Huynh and Janiel Buita took the loss at #1 doubles, 1-6, 3-6, while the #2 team of Nghi Nguyen and Silas Smith dropped their first match together at the spot, falling 3-6, 0-6.

"Carroll came out strong and we were a little hung over from last nights late and lengthy match against Xenia, plus several of our players were worried about getting to the Academic Honors banquet so that was a bit of a distraction for us. All those things together led to a less than impressive outcome for us. Now we have to turn around and head to Troy in the morning for the GWOC tournament. Hopefully we will be ready to go for that."
