On Monday night the Fairborn Girls Tennis team hosted Stivers at the Community Park Courts and on a day that was more like early April than September, the Skyhawks won impressively by a 5-0 score.
"This was a good night for us. We got good performances at every spot and the girls got to enjoy a relatively easy win."
Another highlight for Fairborn was the varsity debut for Kristen Bowman who subbed in at #2 doubles with Melissa Le for an ailing Caitlin Bowling. Bowman and Le had the tightest match of the night, but still won rather handily 6-3 and 6-2.
At #1 doubles, Amanda Wilson and Katelyn Byczkowski won 6-1, 6-0.
"Amanda and Katelyn are starting to get into a good groove and are playing more like they were at the end of last season, which is a great sign for our remaining schedule."
Singles went quickly for the Skyhawks. Starting at #1 singles Rita Chien got the first win of the season at the #1 spot for Fairborn, as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Tiana Thomas rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2, while McKayla Lyons got her first win of the season, taking a 6-2,, 6-0 victory at the #3 position.
"The singles players all looked good tonight and got a chance to play the way we try to get them to play every night. Once they realized they could win, they relaxed and worked at improving their game and they did a great job at it."
"This was a good win for us and a good preparation for a huge match tomorrow at Stebbins. Winning at their courts tomorrow would put us in the driver's seat for the GWOC South, so everyone on the team is looking forward to the challenge."
Tuesday the Skyhawks travel to Stebbins, followed by another road trip on Wednesday, this time to Carlisle, and then Thursday the team will host Dixie in a makeup of an earlier rainout.
