The Fairborn Girls Tennis team came close but was unable to get a crucial win at singles at Stebbins on Tuesday night, and ended up dropping a 3-2 decision to the hosts.
"We gave it our best and there were some close matches tonight but their singles were just a little bit stronger than ours tonight."
For Fairborn the wins came at the two doubles spots. Amanda Wilson and Katelyn Byczkowski won at the #1 spot, 6-3, 7-5. Caitlin Bowling and Melissa were reunited at #2 doubles and celebrated with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
At singles, Rita Chien fell in the first set 3-6, then rallied to take a 5-4 second set lead before eventually dropping the set 5-7 at first singles.
Tiana Thomas played another strong match at #2 singles, but fell 4-6, 4-6.
At #3 singles, McKayla was under the weather but went out and did her best against a strong player. Lyons competed well but lost 3-6, 2-6.
"I was very proud of the girls tonight. We talked on the bus about competing and giving our best effort tonight, then letting the chips fall where they may. I think at every position we went out and did our best. Stebbins has a very solid set of singles players who have beaten some pretty good competition, but we went out there and battled them to the bitter end."
"I was pleased both doubles teams. Amanda and Katelyn had to battle to get their win, but when the pressure was on they always came through. They are getting better with each match. Caitlin and Melissa did a great job tonight as well. It has been exciting watching them improve over the course of the season. Between those two girls and Kristen Bowman we will have a solid foundation coming back next season as long as they keep improving the way they have been so far this season."
The Skyhawks will hit the road on Wednesday as they travel to Carlisle, before returning home Thursday for a makeup match against Dixie.
