Coming off a tough loss at Northridge on Monday, the Fairborn Boy's tennis team was right back on the road Tuesday night as they traveled to Piqua for an important GWOC match.
"Everyone reacted in a positive way and I think they learned the importance of being ready to go after their slow starts yesterday. We were ready to go today and played much better right away."
The result was a 5-0 win for the Skyhawks, their first GWOC win of the season.
Nghi Nguyen got his first win of the season at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Caleb Smith bounced back with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #2 singles, and Janiel Buita won by forfeit at #3 singles.
"We played very well at singles tonight. Coach Miller pushed them in warm ups to be ready and get off to a good start tonight. The boys all got off to good starts and cruised. We were especially pleased to see Nghi get his first win. He has worked really hard to get to the #1 spot and its good to see that hard work rewarded."
The only close set of the night was at #1 doubles, where Silas Smith and Theo Pradelle won a hard fought 7-5 first set, then coasted to a 6-2 second set win. Meanwhile, Wylie Parker and Sam Steck cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win to wrap things up.
The win puts Fairborn at 3-7 overall, and 1-4 in GWOC play. Another road trip awaits the Skyhawks on Wednesday as they take the short trip over to Yellow Springs to play at the Antioch College courts. They will wrap up the week on Thursday by hosting Greenville.
