A walk-off single secured a win for the Fairborn Skyhawks in a contest against the Monroe Hornets today at Nischwitz Stadium.

The game was tied at two with Fairborn batting in the bottom of the seventh when Jacob Hobbs singled on a first pitch fastball to score Andrew Yeary from third.

Monroe struck first in the game, scoring two in the top of the third inning, when starting pitcher, Andrew Trickett walked in two runs after the Hornets loaded the bases with no outs. Trickett was able to get out of the jam when Rothwell grounded into a fielder’s choice 5-2 double play, followed by a pop out to second base.

Fairborn responded, scoring a run in the bottom of the third after Nate Fasnacht reached on an error and Andrew Yeary knocked him in.

In the top of the fourth, Monroe loaded the bases again, and then the Skyhawks brought in Hunter Warner to pitch from Shortstop.

Monroe was unable to plate a run that inning, after Warner fielded a comebacker for a 1-2 put out, Jacob Moore picking off a runner at third, and a ground ball to Fasnacht.

With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks were able to tie the game on a Mark Peterangelo fielder’s choice, scoring Garison Secrest.

There were no more runs until the bottom of the seventh. Warner started the inning with a fly out to left field. Then, Yeary tripled to right center. The Hornets walked Kahlil Lettice intentionally, bringing up Jacob Hobbs. Hobbs singled to right field and the Hawks walked-off 3-2 winners in the contest.

Offensively, the Hawks scored three runs on eight hits, with three RBI, and three strikeouts.

Andrew Trickett started the game and went three innings, giving up two runs on five hits, walking five and striking out two.

Warner came in relief and allowed no runs on one hit, walking two and striking out two, earning the win for Fairborn.

The Skyhawks wrap up the regular season this week, traveling to Sidney on Monday, Valley View Tuesday, and finish at home on Wednesday against Springfield Shawnee.
